Maternity Alternative Payment Model

New Maternity APM Overview

The Department is working to develop a new alternative payment model for maternal care to center health equity in both the program design and design process. This new maternity APM will be an evolution of the current maternity bundled payment program, utilizing lessons learned from the design process of the current program as well as findings from program evaluation to help support the Department’s goal of driving more investment and high-value care into maternity services for birthing people in Colorado.

Stakeholder Engagement Opportunities

Feedback from stakeholders, including Health First Colorado members (Medicaid members), maternity care advocates, and medical providers, is crucial to the new design. There are multiple ways that you can participate in the development of the New Maternity APM, with varying levels of commitment.

Participate in a focus group to inform the goals and objectives of the new program:

Participate in a community roundtable discussion about the new maternity APM. You can attend one or more of these discussions. Information, including dates and times, will be posted to this webpage when available.

Participate in the Maternity Design Review Team (DRT), a smaller workgroup who will provide feedback on program design. DRT members will be expected to attend monthly 2-hour meetings over the course of 6 months (May through September 2024). An interest form for DRT participation will open in March 2024, and selected DRT members will be notified in April 2024.

Health First Colorado members who participate in any of these opportunities will be compensated at a rate of $30/hour. Materials from these discussions will be posted online with an option to submit your written feedback through an online form.
